Media Language Techniques:
- Teaser (The Secret to Running Your BEST Marathon)
- Exclamation (Future Teachers Explore Guatemala!!!)
- Rhyme (Aim High! For the Sky)
Persuasion Techniques:
- Intensity: I used this technique by stating that the reader would learn how to run their BEST marathon ever. I was trying to appeal to those overachiever athletes, who are always looking to be at their peak performance. They are always looking for ways to be the absolute best, whether that means outperforming others, or themselves.
- Plain Folk: I wanted to go against the mainstream and show everyone that even ordinary people have opportunities to travel and explore exotic locations.
- Association: I think everyone wants to dream big and achieve their goals. With "Aim High" I am trying to reach those people who imagine themselves doing great things.
I like the technique of rhyming in order to draw readers in. Another thing I like is you include something personal like your trip to Guatemala. The other technique that stands out is the capitalization of BEST. People want the best things in life and want to experience the thrills of success.
ReplyDeleteAbby,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your magazine cover. It showed that women in society don’t have to just play the role of “pretty” and being “lady-like.” You are a strong, driven, young woman who can do anything, and this is what the magazine cover shows. I would love to see more things like this on magazine stands today. It truly challenges the mainstream media and what they view women as! Great job!
This is a great cover! It shows that you are more than just a 'prissy' girl. You take risks! This is showing that you are an athlete as well as an adventure seeker. Great Job!
ReplyDeleteI see that you used a theme that is becoming more and more common in women's magazines: the professional female athlete. The teasing, feminine color scheme, and especially the rhyming technique would be good for gaining a female audience.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you picked an adventurous theme, and sort of removed gender from the equation. The only traditionally female aspect was the color you choose. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I would change to help fight the stereotypical gender roles is the background color you chose. It could also be because I just don't like pink.
ReplyDeleteI do love how you chose in the athletic/adventurous direction. I think this is challenging the gender roles because you don't normally think of women when you think of marathon runners and adventure takers.
Wow great cover. Good pictures and text to capture the reader's attention and it challenges the traditional views of gender.
